Earwax Removal
Do you know? Your ears have a self-protective mechanism: earwax. It protects your ear canal by trapping dirt and slowing the growth of bacteria. If your ear canals are narrow and/or bent, your earwax could be stuck and accumulate to the point where you feel fullness in the ears. Symptoms may be transient (come and go).
Common symptoms include:
- Earache
- Feeling of fullness in the ear/s
- Ringing or noises in the ear (tinnitus)
- Hearing loss
- Dizziness
- Cough
- Itchiness in the ear
- Odor or discharge in the ear
- Pain or infection in the ear
Your ear canal and eardrum are delicate and can be damaged easily. We recommend that you do not attempt to remove earwax yourself by putting anything in your ear canal, such as Q-tips. Q-tips can push the earwax further in your ear canal or rupture your eardrum.
We offer earwax removal by flushing out your ears with warm water, suctioning, and/or removing it manually with a lighted ear curette. We may share before and after ear canal images with you.
In the event we do not find earwax impaction, but you have some of the symptoms listed above, we recommend that you proceed with a hearing evaluation to determine the cause of your issues.
