A lot of people put off treating their hearing loss for years, not because they don't notice it, but because they dread the idea of wearing a visible hearing aid. They picture something bulky sitting behind their ear and decide they'd rather keep struggling. Missing conversations at dinner, asking people to repeat themselves, cranking up the TV. All of it, just to avoid being seen in a hearing aid.

Here's the thing: today's smallest hearing aids are genuinely invisible. Some sit so deep in the ear canal that no one around you will ever see them — not a coworker, not a friend sitting next to you at lunch. If visibility has been your reason for waiting, it's time to take a second look at what's actually available.

At PAC Audiology in Bellevue, we carry a full range of discreet hearing aids from the top manufacturers in the industry. We've helped patients across the Eastside find something that fits their hearing, their lifestyle, and their comfort level since 2012.

What "Invisible" Actually Means

The smallest hearing aids on the market are called IIC (Invisible-in-Canal) and CIC (Completely-in-Canal) styles. These are custom-built. We take a detailed impression of your ear canal, and the device is shaped specifically for you. It sits recessed inside the canal, completely hidden from view.

Beyond appearance, custom in-canal aids tend to feel more natural. Your ear still captures sound the way it always has, which means phone calls and knowing which direction sound is coming from often feel much closer to normal than with other styles.

That said, they're not the right fit for everyone. Ear canal size, degree of hearing loss, and hand dexterity all factor in. We'll walk through all of this with you during your evaluation — no pressure, just a clear picture of your options.

Hearing Aids Worth Knowing About

We work with several manufacturers known for small, high-performing devices. Here are a few worth knowing about:

  • Oticon Zeal — Available in custom in-canal styles, the Zeal is built around technology designed to reduce listening effort. Many patients find it easier to follow conversations in noisy places like restaurants.
  • Starkey Omega AI — One of the smallest custom options available today. Starkey has long been a leader in custom manufacturing, and this model pairs advanced AI processing with a custom form factor most people won't see.
  • Signia Silk Charge&Go IX — A good option if you'd rather not wait for a custom mold. This soft silicone device fits most ears right away and still sits comfortably inside the canal.
  • Widex Allure — Known for exceptionally natural sound, built on Widex's ZeroDelay technology and the new W1 chip. If you've tried hearing aids before and found processed sound uncomfortable or artificial, this is worth a closer look.

We also carry Phonak, ReSound, Unitron, and Sonic Innovations, all of which offer discreet styles depending on your specific hearing needs.

Smaller Doesn't Mean Less Capable

A common concern is whether a tiny hearing aid can actually keep up with a larger one. For many people, the answer is yes. The performance gap has narrowed considerably, for today's in-canal devices include wireless connectivity, Bluetooth streaming, and automatic adjustments for different environments.

Where smaller devices may fall short is with very severe hearing loss, or in situations that benefit from larger microphone setups and more processing power. That's worth discussing before you decide, and it's exactly what your evaluation is for. You deserve an honest recommendation, not just the smallest device available.

How the Fitting Process Works

Getting fit for a custom hearing aid isn't complicated. We start with a hearing evaluation to get a clear picture of what you're working with. If a custom device looks like a good fit, we take a gentle impression of your ear canal. It's quick and comfortable. The device is then built to match your ear exactly and programmed to your specific hearing loss.

Most patients are wearing their new hearing aids within a couple of weeks. We follow up to make sure everything sounds right and feels comfortable, and we're here if you need any adjustments along the way.
